The Fox Broadcasting Company owns Fox Television Stations, which comprises of several television stations operating in the United States and Fox Broadcasting is a sub-section of Fox Entertainment Group. Fox Television Stations originated in April 1986 with the acquisition of independent stations owned by Metromedia by 20th Century Fox. Rupert Murdoch and Marvin Davis, a Denver based millionaire, were the joint owners. The stations cemented its expertise as the basis of the Fox television network. Soon after the deal was passed, Davis’s shares were also purchased by Murdoch and 20th Century Fox assumed complete control.

Fox Stations began with six original stations. They purchased the new World Communication in 1997, succeeding a business deal which originated in 1993, where all the New World stations switched to Fox. Fox also acquired Chris-Craft United in 2001 which gave ownership to Fox of several UPN network stations.

In November 2008, Fox announced that along with NBC local media, a partnership would be formulated for Fox and NBC owned stations to put together their news resources. Fox and NBC are the first two stations to undertake such a partnership as an effective method to counter the rising cost of news operations. Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Washington D.C. and Chicago are the first states to experience this service roll out. In April 2009, a similar announcement was once again made by Fox with E.W. Scripps Company, where both entities cover stations in Phoenix, Detroit and St. Petersburg.

Fox television stations has become one of the largest owned in the nation comprising of 18 markets and including 27 stations, covering as many as 37.34 million homes in America. These statistics include six duopolies such as Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Washington D.C, Houston and Chicago in the top ten markets, as well as in Phoenix, Orlando and Minneapolis with several other duopolies as well.
