Fringe

Fringe is a science fiction TV show presented by the Fox network. Fringe was created by J.J. Abrahams, A. Kurtzman, and R. Orci.  It’s about a division in homeland security named “Fringe”. The team of Fringe uses unorthodox investigation ways and something called as “Fringe Science”, to investigate ghastly and unnatural mysteries which are connected to a parallel universe. The show has often been described as being similar to XFiles, Altered States, Dark Angel and The Twilight Zone.  The series started in September 2008 and till now 3 seasons have been completed and a fourth season has been signed for. The fourth season premiered on 23rd September, 2011.

Premise

Fringe is based upon the cases of the “Fringe” team that are supported by the FBI. The team includes Agent Olivia Dunham, Doctor Walter Bishop, a crazy scientist, and Peter Bishop, Walter’s son.  The cases that the division solves may be associated to paranormal occurrences and cases such as transhumanist experiments and cases which are not normal which also may involve the intervention of a parallel universe.
The Parallel Universe

Most of the story arc revolves around the parallel universe concept which is mostly a mirror of the real universe but with some historical changes. The producers of the show were very interested in this concept and they are very interested in world building as well and with the parallel universe concept they get a whole universe to play around with. The concept could have been a lot more confusing for the viewers but the producers played smart and slowly introduce it in to the show and the first season had little of it while the second seasons end really introduced the viewers to the concept in full.
Ratings

The show premiered on September 9, 2008 and the first episode viewing was around 9.13 million, and the show ended with a user base of 9.28 million viewers.  The second season kicked off with a viewership of around 7.98 million and ended with a viewership of 5.68 million. The third season had even less viewers with its opening episode having 5.83 million viewers and till the season ended the viewership had dropped down to a meager 3.29 million. The start of the 4th season hasn’t been so good as well with 3.48 million people tuning in to their television sets to watch the start of the 4th season.

But all in all, Fringe has been a popular show amongst the viewers and people like the hybrid it presents of many of the previously popular shows. It’s gained success and recognition around the globe and has been received and followed very well by audiences of all types.
