Fox Television Stations located in the United States is a group of stations owned by Fox Broadcasting Company. In April 1986, the country saw the formation of Fox Television Stations. It was at the time that 20th Century Fox acquired independent stations owned by Metromedia. Prior to this Marvin Davis, a billionaire based in Denver and Rupert Murdock, Australian media mogul’s News Corporation, were joint owners. Fox Television network would make these stations their basis, which took off in October 1986. After the Metromedia deal was made, Davis’ shares were purchased by Murdoch and 20th Century Fox came under the control of News Corporation.

While Fox held on to the six original stations, they made two large transactions in 1997. The purchase of New World Communication, which started out as a business deal in 1993, and acquiring Chris-Craft/United in 2001. This deal gave ownership of many stations to Fox. Fox also affiliated with UPN network, which lead to several duopolies being created.

In 2008, a formation of partnership was announced with the NBC Local media and Fox Television Stations, which would allow both Fox and NBC to pool their resources together. The first tests of this partnership can be seen in Philadelphia where WCAU-TV owned by NBC and WTXF-TV owned by Fox are operating. Both networks have undertaken the plan to deal effectively with rising costs of operating as a news station. The partnership is later to be rolled out to Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C. and Dallas. In each of these states NBC and FOX own and operate television stations. In 2009, a similar arrangement was agreed by Fox Television Stations with E.W. Scripps Company. The two entities cover markets in Phoenix, Detroit and Tampa.
